DISTINGUISHED SERVICE ORDER G.VI.R 1ST AWARD ORIGINAL
Distinguished Service Order 1st type (1938-1948) uncased with original ribbon bar and top bar slider.
This Distinguished Service Order was awarded to MAJOR LAMOUREUX who lost a leg and almost died from his wounds
The DSO is generally given to officers in command, above the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel and awards to ranks below this are usually for a high degree of gallantry just short of deserving the Victoria Cross.
The medal is a gold colored cross and on the obverse, within a wreath of laurel, enameled green, is the Imperial Crown in gold on a red enameled ground. On the reverse, within a wreath of laurel, enameled green, is the Royal Cipher in gold on a red enameled ground.
The red ribbon is 1.125 inches wide with narrow vertical blue edges.
